The benchmark indices ended with decent gains on Wednesday supported by metal and PSU bank stocks. Among sectors, except IT (down 1.3) all other indices ended higher with metal, FMCG, PSU Bank indices up 1% each.
Overseas, Asian stocks rose in thin holiday trade on Wednesday as Iran-U.S. nuclear talks showed progress. The Nikkei average climbed 1.02 percent to 57,143.84 while the broader Topix index closed up 1.21 percent at 3,807.25.
Meanwhile, Oil edged up slightly after falling about 2 percent to a two-week low in the previous session on signs of easing geopolitical tensions. Gold rose over 1 percent to trade above $4,900 an ounce, after having fallen more than 2 percent to hit a one-week low in the previous session.
On the corporate front, Tata Steel jumped 2.9 percent, ITC rallied 2.2 percent, Axis Bank added 1.5 percent and Reliance Industries rose 1.3 percent. While Wipro, Persistent Systems, Oracle Financial Services and LTIMindtree all fell around 2 percent.
Indian rupee ended flat at 90.67 per dollar on Wednesday versus Tuesday's close of 90.68.
The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 83734.25 up by 283.29 points or by 0.34 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25819.35 up by 93.95 points or by 0.37 %.
During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 83770.05 and intraday low of 83163.62 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25828.05 and intraday low of 25645.15.

Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 277.30,-1.53%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1503.75,-1.34%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1373.55,-1.27%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1466.90,-1.06%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1550.95,-1.00%), among others were the losers.
