Sensex, NIfty trade flat; Rupee opens lower at 90.94

The Indian equities opened lower on Friday, weighed by rising oil prices amid escalating Iran-US tensions. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap gained 0.1 per cent, but the Nifty SmallCap index slipped 0.09 per cent.



Overseas, Asian markets were broadly lower this morning, with South Korea's Kospi average bucking the weak trend.



On the corporate front, Gaudium IVF and Women's Health’s initial public offer will open for subscription on Friday. The ₹165-crore book build issue will close for subscription on February 24.



At 9:55 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82597.7 up by 99.56 points or by 0.12 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25482.3 up by 27.95 points or by 0.11 %.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 442.60,+1.62%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 367.70,+1.25%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4331.80,+1.24%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4240.70,+1.04%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2302.85,+1.02%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 28.15,-2.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1457.20,-1.60%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1354.40,-1.11%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 268.95,-1.10%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1977.45,-0.65%), among others.



On the sectoral front, CGS index was at 69196.76 up by 618.41 points or by 0.9%. Data Patterns (India) Ltd. (Rs. 3104.00,+6.67%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 6010.00,+5.15%), Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Rs. 1311.00,+2.86%), Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (Rs. 2392.30,+2.23%), Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 23344.65,+2.22%),.



Among others, IT index was at 31099.51 down by -260.17 points or by -0.83%. Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 585.95,-5.75%), Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services Ltd. (Rs. 231.00,-4.64%), Ksolves India Ltd. (Rs. 316.70,-3.33%), Datamatics Global Services Ltd. (Rs. 821.20,-3.08%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 5136.45,-2.55%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3659 , shares advanced were 1793 while 1688 shares declined and 178 were unchanged.
