Sensex slips 200 points; power stocks tumble

Indian benchmarks witnessed sharp decline by trading nearly 200 points lower during the late noon trading session tracking the mixed in the Asian markets. In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap 100 index was up 0.18 per cent, and the SmallCap was down 0.27 per cent.



On the corporate front, E2E Networks shares gained 3.88 per cent in trade, logging an intra-day high at ₹2,660 per share n the National Stock Exchange (NSE). While, Shares of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Ltd. tumbled by more than 7 per cent on Thursday amid reports that Vellayan Subbiah would divest his exposure to the company.



Among others, shares of Graphite India have hit an over four-year high at ₹736.45, gaining 2 per cent on the BSE in Thursday’s intra-day trade amid heavy volumes.



At 14:19 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82142.98 down by -133.09 points or by -0.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25439.95 down by -42.55 points or by -0.17 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 82579.16 and intraday low of 81970.47 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25572.95 and intraday low of 25400.95.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 445.35,+1.38%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1779.65,+0.90%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1542.00,+0.89%), Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 25.95,+0.78%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 15144.10,+0.56%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 301.90,-1.73%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3873.45,-1.39%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 379.60,-1.38%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 246.85,-1.36%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12877.60,-1.26%), among others.



Among the sectors, HCS index was at 44325.16 up by 312.15 points or by 0.71%. Mankind Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 2271.95,+5.42%), Themis Medicare Ltd. (Rs. 87.29,+5.27%), Dishman Carbogen Amcis Ltd. (Rs. 183.70,+3.99%), Shilpa Medicare Ltd. (Rs. 339.15,+3.51%), Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd. (Rs. 751.00,+3.42%),.



On the flip side, Power index was at 6978.68 down by -38.59 points or by -0.55%. Siemens Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 2903.75,-3.15%), Reliance Power Ltd. (Rs. 25.05,-1.92%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 301.90,-1.73%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 379.60,-1.38%), NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 75.13,-0.70%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4403 , shares advanced were 1982 while 2224 shares declined and 197 were unchanged.
