Sensex, Nifty open in red; Rupee opens lower

India's stock market opened Friday's trading session on a tepid note amid mixed cues from global peers. Indian shares are seen opening on a cautious note Friday as a global tech rally stalled amid concerns about excessive levels of investment across the AI space and doubts about the pace of returns from those investments.



Overseas, European stocks rose broadly on Thursday amid a flurry of corporate earnings releases. The pan-European STOXX 600 finished marginally lower. The German DAX rose half a percent, France's CAC 40 surged 0.7 percent and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 added 0.4 percent.



Meanwhile, Indian rupee opened lower at 90.95 per dollar on Friday versus Thursday's close of 90.91.



At 9:23 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 82007.77 down by -240.84 points or by -0.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25496.55 up by 14.05 points or by 0.06 %.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1306.00,+1.29%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3906.00,+1.25%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 249.30,+1.18%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1387.90,+1.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1375.20,+0.98%), among others.



On the flip side, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 14995.00,-1.43%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1905.60,-1.19%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2355.50,-1.18%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12792.20,-1.10%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3450.00,-0.98%), were among the top losers on the BSE.



On the sectoral front, IT index was at 29936.87 up by 261.79 points or by 0.88%. 63 Moons Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 627.45,+3.67%), Birlasoft Ltd. (Rs. 394.10,+2.67%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2299.15,+1.64%), Datamatics Global Services Ltd. (Rs. 787.00,+1.54%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1215.70,+1.32%),.



Among others, FMCG index was at 18863.97 down by -164.81 points or by -0.87%. Venky's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 1314.95,-3.02%), LT Foods Ltd. (Rs. 400.00,-1.97%), Bajaj Consumer Care Ltd. (Rs. 396.25,-1.61%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1219.45,-1.61%), The Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1702.10,-1.43%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3280 , shares advanced were 1304 while 1806 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
