Post-Session: Sensex ends 829 pts lower, Nifty ends below 23,700

The Indian benchmark indices ended the session in the red, as volatility in global crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment and kept market participants cautious.



Meanwhile, S. Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, discussed the safety of shipping routes and India’s energy security with his Iranian counterpart, according to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs. The discussions come amid rising tensions in West Asia, which have raised concerns over global oil supply and maritime security.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76034.42 down by -829.29 points or by -1.08 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23639.15 down by -227.7 points or by -0.95 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76681.71 and intraday low of 75871.18 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23833.15 and intraday low of 23556.3



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 390.60,+2.79%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 303.70,+1.64%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1355.45,+1.61%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1359.60,+0.71%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1391.85,+0.05%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3032.80,-4.23%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13016.10,-3.60%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 863.55,-3.31%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3720.95,-3.06%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11125.40,-2.90%), among others.



Power index was at 7057.01 up by 172.49 points or by 2.51%. Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 149.10,+7.38%), JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 518.40,+6.29%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 267.90,+4.73%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 402.30,+4.44%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 1501.30,+4.34%),.



Auto index was at 55697.6 down by -1676.57 points or by -2.92%. TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 3411.00,-5.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3032.80,-4.23%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 6970.00,-3.89%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13016.10,-3.60%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 178.25,-3.57%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4590 , shares advanced were 1803 while 2594 shares declined and 193 were unchanged.
