Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals a positive start; US, Asian markets gain

Indian equity benchmarks, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to open on a slightly positive note on March 18, supported by gains in GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher at 23,643.



The indices rebounded strongly in the previous session after a three-day losing streak, with the Nifty 50 ending comfortably above the 23,400 mark in a volatile trade, driven by buying in auto, banking, and FMCG stocks.



On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76070.84 up by 567.99 points or by 0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23581.15 up by 172.35 points or by 0.74 %.



On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets gained in early trade on Wednesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose over 2 per cent as data showed the exports rose 4.2 per cent Y-o-Y in February.

South Korea’s Kospi was up nearly 4 per cent to lead gains in the region. China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading 0.06 per cent and 0.03 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average indices ended 0.25 per cent and 0.10 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.47 per cent higher.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 450.18 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 107083.39 Crore.



On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 187852 with a total turnover of Rs. 29239.99 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1281063 with a total turnover of Rs. 79471.50 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 503180174 with a total turnover of Rs. 76949921.47 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6316006 with a total turnover of Rs. 412232.67 Crore.



The FIIs on 17/03/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12106.63 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1123.70 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 21513.41 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 56.81 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -9406.78 Crore and Rs. 1066.89
