Indian equity benchmarks, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to open on a slightly positive note on March 18, supported by gains in GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher at 23,643.
The indices rebounded strongly in the previous session after a three-day losing streak, with the Nifty 50 ending comfortably above the 23,400 mark in a volatile trade, driven by buying in auto, banking, and FMCG stocks.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76070.84 up by 567.99 points or by 0.75 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23581.15 up by 172.35 points or by 0.74 %.
On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets gained in early trade on Wednesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose over 2 per cent as data showed the exports rose 4.2 per cent Y-o-Y in February.
South Korea’s Kospi was up nearly 4 per cent to lead gains in the region. China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading 0.06 per cent and 0.03 per cent higher, respectively.
Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average indices ended 0.25 per cent and 0.10 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.47 per cent higher.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12106.63 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1123.70 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 21513.41 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 56.81 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -9406.78 Crore and Rs. 1066.89
