Sensex jumps 400 points, Nifty above 23,700; IT, auto outperform

The Nifty 50 and Sensex opened on a firm note, extending early gains led by strength in IT stocks. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, and Shriram Finance emerged as the top gainers on the Nifty 50 index.



At 9:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76482.53 up by 411.69 points or by 0.54 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23721.9 up by 140.75 points or by 0.6 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76589.68 and intraday low of 76187.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23726.75 and intraday low of 23618.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2459.35,+2.83%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4395.20,+2.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3200.00,+2.22%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1349.45,+2.15%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3711.05,+2.05%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 837.40,-1.00%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1278.00,-0.85%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 194.35,-0.54%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 373.10,-0.32%), among others.



IT index was at 28481.85 up by 640.68 points or by 2.3%. Intellect Design Arena Ltd. (Rs. 686.55,+6.80%), Quick Heal Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 148.15,+5.41%), Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1075.90,+5.03%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1095.30,+4.19%), Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 462.65,+3.97%),.



Metal index was at 38337.87 down by -114.98 points or by -0.3%. Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 537.20,-1.70%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 388.80,-1.63%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 690.75,-1.18%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 152.05,-0.88%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1147.25,-0.85%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3370 , shares advanced were 2648 while 578 shares declined and 144 were unchanged.
