Mid-Session: Sensex zooms 661 pts; Infosys, M&M top gainers

Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 jumped on Wednesday, extending their gains to the third straight session.



At 12:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76732.56 up by 661.72 points or by 0.87 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23778.2 up by 197.05 points or by 0.84 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76929.3 and intraday low of 76187.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23835.95 and intraday low of 23618.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1285.20,+4.28%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1395.55,+3.95%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1370.50,+3.75%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 241.60,+2.94%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2462.00,+2.94%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 379.60,-1.00%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 840.10,-0.68%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2144.60,-0.64%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 373.40,-0.24%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1793.35,-0.13%), among others.



IT index was at 28897.66 up by 1056.49 points or by 3.79%. Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1125.65,+9.88%), Quick Heal Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 152.35,+8.40%), Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. (Rs. 828.00,+7.89%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1118.20,+6.36%), InfoBeans Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 140.65,+6.27%),.



Metal index was at 38464.74 down by 11.89 points or by 0.03%. Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 450.20,-2.58%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 684.45,-2.08%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 537.20,-1.70%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 388.75,-1.64%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 728.25,-0.39%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4388 , shares advanced were 3197 while 1003 shares declined and 188 were unchanged.
