Sensex surges 872 pts, Nifty above 23,800

The Nifty50 and the Sensex were trading near day's highs supported by buying in index heavyweights including Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Infosys Ltd. HCL Technologies Ltd.Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.Eternal Ltd. among others.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76942.92 up by 872.08 points or by 1.15 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23817.65 up by 236.5 points or by 1 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 77000.22 and intraday low of 76187.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23859.35 and intraday low of 23618.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1397.20,+4.07%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1276.95,+3.61%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1363.70,+3.23%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1407.00,+3.19%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 242.00,+3.11%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 379.75,-0.96%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2141.00,-0.81%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1782.30,-0.74%), among others.



IT index was at 28809.84 up by 968.67 points or by 3.48%. Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1131.75,+10.48%), Quick Heal Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 152.50,+8.50%), Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 249.30,+8.39%), Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. (Rs. 829.20,+8.05%), InfoBeans Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 141.55,+6.95%),.



Metal index was at 38528.24 down by 75.39 points or by 0.2%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 684.50,-2.07%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 387.45,-1.97%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 454.45,-1.66%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 537.55,-1.64%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 936.00,-0.07%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4524 , shares advanced were 3325 while 1044 shares declined and 155 were unchanged.
