Post-Session: Nifty holds above 23,700, Sensex jumps 633 points

The Indian equity benchmark indices ended near day’s highs as IT and realty stocks supported.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76704.13 up by 633.29 points or by 0.83 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23777.8 up by 196.65 points or by 0.83 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 77000.22 and intraday low of 76187.92 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23862.25 and intraday low of 23618.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 242.60,+3.37%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1386.35,+3.27%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1267.45,+2.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3214.50,+2.68%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1355.60,+2.62%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 378.50,-1.29%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2136.15,-1.04%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1780.00,-0.87%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 842.95,-0.34%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 304.05,-0.30%), among others.



IT index was at 28626.76 up by 785.59 points or by 2.82%. Sasken Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1160.30,+13.27%), Onward Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 249.30,+8.39%), Quick Heal Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 152.10,+8.22%), Nucleus Software Exports Ltd. (Rs. 829.90,+8.14%), InfoBeans Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 141.50,+6.91%),.



Metal index was at 38417.02 down by -35.83 points or by -0.09%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 679.25,-2.83%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 387.45,-1.97%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 537.45,-1.66%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 454.95,-1.55%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 933.75,-0.31%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4662 , shares advanced were 3284 while 1212 shares declined and 166 were unchanged.
