Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty plunge over 3% amid oil spike, weak global cues

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty tumbled over 3% on Thursday, as a sharp surge in crude oil prices and weak global market trends rattled investor sentiment.



The decline comes amid escalating strikes on key energy infrastructure in West Asia, which have heightened concerns over supply disruptions and added to market uncertainty.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 74207.24 down by -2496.89 points or by -3.26 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23002.15 down by -775.65 points or by -3.26 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 75354.18 and intraday low of 73950.95 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23378.7 and intraday low of 22930.35



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 228.90,-5.65%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 832.00,-5.42%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3045.60,-5.25%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 799.70,-5.13%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3435.25,-4.72%), among others.

Power index was at 6856.6 up by -116.42 points or by -1.67%..



Auto index was at 54333.43 down by -2305.89 points or by -4.07%. Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 168.60,-5.63%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3045.60,-5.25%), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. (Rs. 111.85,-5.01%), Bharat Forge Ltd. (Rs. 1712.45,-5.01%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 309.20,-4.73%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4653 , shares advanced were 1109 while 3357 shares declined and 187 were unchanged.
