Mid-Session: Sensex tanks 1877 points; Nifty near 22,500

Indian benchmark indices continued to extend losses in line with global market weakness, as rising geopolitical tensions escalated after US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran.

At 12:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72655.5 down by -1877.46 points or by -2.52 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22524.9 down by -589.6 points or by -2.55 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 73732.58 and intraday low of 72560.19 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22851.7 and intraday low of 22478.15

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1349.20,+1.14%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1398.00,+0.95%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 298.00,+0.17%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 3911.25,-5.71%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 10387.00,-4.95%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 3390.00,-4.92%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3909.75,-4.83%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 405.80,-4.75%), among others.

IT index was at 28039.61 up by -187 points or by -0.66%. HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1349.20,+1.14%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 4770.00,+1.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1398.00,+0.95%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1095.50,+0.56%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1068.95,+0.12%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4648 , shares advanced were 576 while 3912 shares declined and 160 were unchanged.
