Mid-Session: Stock markets slump; L&T, IndiGo top losers

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty slumped on Thursday afternoon trade after an impressive rally in the previous session as fresh tensions in West Asia threatened the ceasefire reached between the US and Iran.



Weak trends in Asian markets and unabated foreign fund outflows also drove the markets lower.



At 12:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76906.9 down by -656 points or by -0.85 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23872.55 down by -124.8 points or by -0.52 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 77429.33 and intraday low of 76624.35 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23990.75 and intraday low of 23759.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 383.45,+2.46%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 442.35,+2.16%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 298.45,+1.22%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2590.50,+1.20%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 205.80,+0.76%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3915.00,-2.30%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4515.00,-2.20%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 801.60,-1.78%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 373.55,-1.70%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1287.50,-1.66%), among others.



CGS index was at 70814.96 up by 1372.54 points or by 1.98%. Zen Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1559.05,+7.55%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 280.40,+5.49%), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 3475.00,+5.26%), Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 27183.05,+4.93%), Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (Rs. 1442.90,+4.56%),.



Bankex index was at 62071.45 down by -630.23 points or by -1.01%. HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 801.60,-1.78%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 373.55,-1.70%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1287.50,-1.66%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 822.75,-1.56%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1046.70,-1.36%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4406 , shares advanced were 2545 while 1661 shares declined and 200 were unchanged.
