Sensex at day's low, drops 1,100 pts; Nifty breaks 23,700

The Nifty50 and the Sensex extended losses as oil prices resumed rally after Iran accused the US of violating the ceasefire agreement.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76496.52 down by -1066.38 points or by -1.37 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23720.3 down by -277.05 points or by -1.15 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 77429.33 and intraday low of 76347.9 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 23990.75 and intraday low of 23709.85



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 439.70,+1.55%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 297.85,+1.02%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 377.90,+0.98%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2578.80,+0.74%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 205.30,+0.51%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4447.80,-3.66%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3893.60,-2.84%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 794.00,-2.71%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 237.90,-2.34%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1279.00,-2.31%), among others.



CGS index was at 70382.53 up by 940.11 points or by 1.35%. Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 3499.95,+6.02%), Zen Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1533.20,+5.77%), Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 27165.00,+4.86%), GE Vernova T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 3905.65,+4.80%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 276.50,+4.03%),.



Bankex index was at 61610.75 down by -1090.93 points or by -1.74%. HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 794.00,-2.71%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 815.25,-2.46%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1279.00,-2.31%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 371.45,-2.25%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1041.00,-1.89%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4549 , shares advanced were 2051 while 2342 shares declined and 156 were unchanged.
