Sensex above 150 pts, Nifty at 24148; metal stocks shine

The domestic equity market opened on a muted note on Tuesday after it emerged that U.S. President Donald Trump and his national security team are skeptical of Iran's offer of a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the two-month war, while setting aside nuclear negotiations for later.



On the corporate front, Coal India share price rose 4.7 per cent to an intraday high of ₹473.90 per share on the National Stock Exchange. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.38 per cent and 0.89 per cent higher, respectively.



At 10:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 77455.08 up by 151.45 points or by 0.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24148.3 up by 55.6 points or by 0.23 %.



In the positive trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 77493.53 and intraday low of 76973.54 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24168.55 and intraday low of 23999.25.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 217.30,+1.78%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 381.55,+1.23%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1752.80,+1.10%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2471.85,+1.00%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1376.25,+0.75%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 247.25,-3.27%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1303.00,-1.62%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1212.70,-1.30%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11886.70,-1.05%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1157.85,-1.03%), among others.



Among sectors, BSE Metal index was at 43157.99 up by 443.83 points or by 1.04%. Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 470.55,+3.90%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 786.00,+1.95%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 217.30,+1.78%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 755.15,+1.69%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 187.00,+1.55%),.



Whereas, Bankex index was at 63007.82 down by -375.54 points or by -0.59%. Union Bank of India (Rs. 171.65,-2.53%), Canara Bank (Rs. 137.50,-2.14%), IDFC First Bank Ltd. (Rs. 69.10,-1.71%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1303.00,-1.62%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 112.50,-1.23%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4064 , shares advanced were 2141 while 1689 shares declined and 234 were unchanged.
