Indices continue to trade lower; Rupee near day's low

Indian benchmarks continued to trade lower during the late noon trading session on Tuesday. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.16 per cent and 0.48 per cent higher, respectively.



Indian rupee is trading near day's low at 94.52 per dollar against Monday's close of 94.19.



On the corporate front, Tata Chemicals shares surged nearly 9 per cent in intraday trade on the back of strong volumes. Shares of Websol Energy Systems were locked at the 5 per cent upper circuit at ₹122.31 on the BSE in Tuesday’s intra-day trade.



At 14:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76977.89 down by -325.74 points or by -0.42 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23993.35 down by -99.35 points or by -0.41 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 77493.53 and intraday low of 76793.24 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24181.8 and intraday low of 23961.25.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1393.40,+2.01%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 215.50,+0.94%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1750.00,+0.93%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1836.40,+0.93%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1406.45,+0.76%), among others.



Among others, the top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 247.50,-3.17%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4441.75,-2.66%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1196.40,-2.63%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1290.50,-2.57%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12980.00,-1.86%), among others.



On the sectoral front, Metal index was at 43002.73 up by 288.57 points or by 0.68%. Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 465.40,+2.76%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1075.90,+1.32%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 215.55,+0.96%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 185.80,+0.90%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 776.05,+0.66%),.



Whereas, Bankex index was at 62546.32 down by -837.04 points or by -1.32%. Union Bank of India (Rs. 170.85,-2.98%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1290.00,-2.60%), Canara Bank (Rs. 137.20,-2.35%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 111.35,-2.24%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 268.20,-2.10%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4616 , shares advanced were 2075 while 2328 shares declined and 213 were unchanged.
