Sensex, Nifty open in red; Rupee opens at 95.01

India's stock market opened lower by 900 pts on Thursday morning, tracking losses in global equities as Brent crude prices soared due to the tension between the US and Iran. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 1.06 per cent and 0.46 per cent down, respectively.



Meanwhile, the rupee opened 16 paise lower at 95.01 against the US dollar compared to Wednesday's close of 94.85 a dollar.



At 9:31 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76562.97 down by -933.39 points or by -1.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23945.25 down by -232.4 points or by -0.96 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 77014.21 and intraday low of 76502.16 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24019.15 and intraday low of 23940.95.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 964.15,+3.68%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1789.15,+1.40%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1785.00,+0.34%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1170.25,+0.24%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 316.40,+0.06%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 246.05,-3.15%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4223.40,-2.82%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1624.70,-2.17%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11576.20,-2.14%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3085.00,-2.09%), among others.



On the sectoral front, IT index was at 28281 up by 18.02 points or by 0.06%. Nintec Systems Ltd. (Rs. 520.00,+3.66%), Black Box Ltd. (Rs. 634.05,+2.65%), Unicommerce eSolutions Ltd. (Rs. 95.22,+2.38%), GNG Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 421.25,+2.21%), BLS E-Services Ltd. (Rs. 187.00,+1.82%),.



On the flip side, Auto index was at 56494.36 down by -1059.02 points or by -1.84%. TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 3446.90,-2.96%), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (Rs. 344.55,-2.21%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3081.30,-2.21%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 7030.75,-2.18%), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 415.10,-1.96%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3550 , shares advanced were 1282 while 2101 shares declined and 167 were unchanged.
