Sensex down 1000 points, Nifty around 23850; rupee at record low

Indian equities are trading under pressure on early morning taking cues from their weak Asian peers, as Brent crude prices topped $120 a barrel on rising uncertainty over the war in the Middle East, fueling inflation and interest-rate concerns.



Overseas, Asian stock markets are trading mixed on Thursday, following the mixed cues from Wall Street overnight. Asian markets closed mostly higher on Wednesday.



Meanwhile, the Indian rupee made a new low of 95.27 as rising oil prices keep the US dollar well bid while FPI outflows continue despite market moving up.



At 10:27 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 76410.54 down by -1085.82 points or by -1.4 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23828.6 down by -349.05 points or by -1.44 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 77014.21 and intraday low of 76340.21 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24019.15 and intraday low of 23824.10.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 947.05,+1.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1464.25,+0.27%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1169.60,+0.18%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 244.15,-3.90%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4189.90,-3.59%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3061.15,-2.85%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 426.00,-2.62%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1263.15,-2.49%), among others.



On the sectoral front, BSETECk index was at 14916.07 up by -65.87 points or by -0.44%. MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2310.75,+2.76%), KPIT Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 752.00,+1.66%), Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 594.40,+1.37%), HFCL Ltd. (Rs. 107.93,+0.67%), Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 418.80,+0.50%),.



Whereas, Metal index was at 42169.96 down by -945.62 points or by -2.19%. Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 279.00,-63.92%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 586.75,-4.32%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 419.05,-3.27%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1918.00,-2.57%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1043.80,-2.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4036 , shares advanced were 1138 while 2691 shares declined and 207 were unchanged.
