Sensex slips 287 points; NSE Nifty at 23749.35

Indian equity markets witnessed heightened volatility in afternoon trade on Friday, with benchmark indices slipping into negative territory as selling pressure intensified across auto, energy, PSU and banking stocks. Weak sentiment in these heavyweight sectors weighed on the broader market, leading to a sharp pullback after a positive start to the session.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 75580.02 down by -287.78 points or by -0.38 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23749.35 down by -157.8 points or by -0.66 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76220.02 and intraday low of 75384.06 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24002.8 and intraday low of 23731.25



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1192.00,+2.83%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1494.60,+2.74%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1191.40,+2.25%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4105.05,+1.46%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4287.15,+0.91%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 292.20,-2.65%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4447.45,-2.64%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 390.20,-2.00%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 210.70,-1.89%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1330.90,-1.41%), among others.

IT index was at 28605.19 up by 559.25 points or by 1.99%.

Oil&Gas index was at 27087.07 down by -410.14 points or by -1.49%. Adani Total Gas Ltd. (Rs. 784.05,-2.98%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 267.65,-2.30%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 166.15,-1.69%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 302.35,-1.53%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 274.65,-1.49%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4656 , shares advanced were 1912 while 2485 shares declined and 259 were unchanged.
