Post-Session: Sensex plunges 1,092 pts as auto, metal, oil & gas stocks drag

Benchmark equity indices closed lower on May 29, with the Nifty 50 ending below the 23,550 level as widespread selling pressure across sectors weighed on market sentiment. Weakness in key heavyweight stocks and profit-booking during the latter half of the session dragged both benchmark indices into negative territory by the close.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 74775.74 down by -1092.06 points or by -1.44 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23547.75 down by -359.4 points or by -1.5 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76220.02 and intraday low of 74589.11 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24002.8 and intraday low of 23484.75



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1483.20,+1.96%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1184.35,+1.65%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 4076.65,+0.76%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1159.75,+0.05%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 289.75,-3.46%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4418.40,-3.27%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 386.75,-2.86%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 208.90,-2.72%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3034.80,-2.72%), among others.



IT index was at 28165.11 up by 119.17 points or by 0.42%. Netweb Technologies India Ltd. (Rs. 4696.50,+15.39%), Network People Services Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1164.70,+13.12%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 261.85,+6.01%), MosChip Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 220.10,+5.79%), Black Box Ltd. (Rs. 1044.60,+5.09%),.



Oil&Gas index was at 26741.03 down by -756.18 points or by -2.75%. Adani Total Gas Ltd. (Rs. 772.55,-4.40%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 297.50,-3.11%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 266.00,-2.90%), Indraprastha Gas Ltd. (Rs. 160.10,-2.82%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 164.30,-2.78%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4735 , shares advanced were 1766 while 2734 shares declined and 235 were unchanged.
