MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a positive note on Monday, but it would remain volatile as investors may continue to consolidate and react to stock-specific developments today.

Asian markets were trading higher amid tariff uncertainty as U.S. President Donald Trump announced over the weekend that he would increase global tariffs to 15% from 10%.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82814.71 up by 316.57 points or by 0.38 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25571.25 up by 116.9 points or by 0.46 %.

On the global front, Wall Street’s major indices ended higher, supported by gains in Alphabet Inc., Amazon, and other heavyweight stocks following the Supreme Court’s decision.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.69% to end the session at 6,909.51 points. The Nasdaq gained 0.90% to 22,886.07 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.47% to 49,625.97 points.

Meanwhile, Oil prices traded lower on Monday. Brent crude was down 1.05 per cent at $71.01 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading 1.22 per cent lower at $65.67 per barrel.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 31971956.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 26605844.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 22654907.00, Eternal Ltd. 19317167.00, Wipro Ltd. 17690420.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 350.98 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 92643.79 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 261522 with a total turnover of Rs. 44485.49 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 5204539 with a total turnover of Rs. 347995.20 Crore.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 138959353 with a total turnover of Rs. 23362393.60 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 11116157 with a total turnover of Rs. 774706.33 Crore.

The FIIs on 20/02/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 18803.29 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 714.97 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 16879.53 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 209.03 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1923.76 Crore and Rs. 505.94.
