MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices, including the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note, tracking firm global cues reflected in GIFT Nifty trends.

Meanwhile, the GIFT Nifty is trading nearly 200 points higher around 24,094, signaling a strong start for domestic markets.

In the previous session (April 24), markets witnessed continued selling pressure for the third straight day, with the Nifty slipping below the 23,900 mark amid broad-based weakness, particularly led by IT stocks.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76664.21 down by -999.79 points or by -1.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23897.95 down by -275.1 points or by -1.14 %. On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets rose on Monday morning after a report said that Iran submitted a proposal to the US to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi scaled fresh highs. The indices were trading 1.41 per cent and 1.94 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.80 per cent and 1.61 per cent higher, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average settled 0.16 per cent down. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 449.65 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 130943.28 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 225662 with a total turnover of Rs. 35993.27 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 5271504 with a total turnover of Rs. 334055.93 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 83936814 with a total turnover of Rs. 13274200.10 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 11924794 with a total turnover of Rs. 781122.19 Crore.

The FIIs on 24/04/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12983.92 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 153.50 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15453.59 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 236.59 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2469.67 Crore and Rs. -83.09
