Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a weak note on August 25, tracking GIFT Nifty, which was trading lower at around 24,166.50 in early trade.

The domestic market began the week on a negative note on August 24, with the Nifty slipping below the 24,150 mark during the session amid volatility. Selling pressure was seen across heavyweight stocks and most sectors, while metal and realty stocks bucked the broader trend.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77369.11 down by -171.72 points or by -0.22 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24219.05 down by -32.95 points or by -0.14 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading lower, with South Korea’s Kospi leading losses with a 2 per cent decline. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s CSI 300 were down 0.43 per cent and 0.52 per cent down, respectively.

Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.28 per cent and 0.76 per cent down, respectively. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average settled 0.26 per cent higher.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 15348.06 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 50.70 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 13373.61 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 430.65 Crore.
