MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a flat note with a positive bias on July 17, as GIFT Nifty was trading around 24,143 in early trade.

In the previous session, the domestic market witnessed a positive start and extended gains during the first half, supported by buying interest in IT stocks and select heavyweight counters. However, profit booking emerged in the latter half of the session, erasing all the intraday gains and dragging the benchmark indices to close near their day's lows.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77186.87 up by 1.44 points or by 0 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24072.75 down by -5.75 points or by -0.02 %.

On the global front, in the Asian market Japan’s Nikkei 225 was trading over 4 per cent lower amid rising as oil prices due to US-Iran tension. South Korea’s Kospi was shut for trading on Friday due to constitutional day holiday. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.20 per cent and 0.51 per cent lower, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 1.47 per cent lower.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 421.15 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 122437.16 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 72111 with a total turnover of Rs. 11641.46 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1136249 with a total turnover of Rs. 79201.44 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 44820906 with a total turnover of Rs. 7083217.89 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6901540 with a total turnover of Rs. 500876.39 Crore.

The FIIs on 16/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 13778.05 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 500.18 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 14260.11 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 57.27 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -482.06 Crore and Rs. 442.91
