Indian benchmark indices are likely to open lower on August 13, tracking the weak cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,422.50 in early trade.

The domestic equity benchmarks ended lower for the second consecutive session on Wednesday, with the Nifty closing below the 24,400 mark. Market sentiment remained cautious as selling pressure intensified in Tata Group stocks following N Chandrasekaran’s decision to step down as Chairman of Tata Sons.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77966.35 down by -187.9 points or by -0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24435.95 down by -35.75 points or by -0.15 %.

On the global front, Asian markets advanced on Thursday as technology shares rebounded and as an in-line US inflation print for July eased worries about monetary tightening in the world’s largest economy. South Korea’s Kospi was trading 3.76 per cent higher as shares of Samsung Inc and SK Hynix surged.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s CSI 300 were trading 1.45 per cent and 0.05 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.04 per cent, and the S&P 500 rose 0.26 per cent. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.54 per cent higher.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 49051142 with a total turnover of Rs. 7871030.46 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8083680 with a total turnover of Rs. 590277.25 Crore.

The FIIs on 12/08/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14948.52 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 251.20 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15121.35 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 12.38 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -172.83 Crore and Rs. 238.82
