MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note on Thursday, supported by firm global cues. GIFT Nifty was trading around 24,195, up 102 points, indicating a strong start for the Nifty50, as easing crude oil prices after the conclusion of US-Iran talks in Doha boosted investor sentiment.

In the previous session, the benchmark indices snapped a two-day losing streak and ended with solid gains, driven by broad-based buying in auto, FMCG, realty, and financial stocks. However, IT stocks remained under pressure after weaker-than-expected first-quarter guidance from KPIT Technologies.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76922.64 up by 443.97 points or by 0.58 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24005.85 up by 140.1 points or by 0.59 %.

On the global front, most Asian stocks declined as investors rushed to unwind their bets on chip stocks amid concerns about huge spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. South Korea’s Kospi led losses with a nearly 7 per cent intraday decline. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s CSI 300 were trading 0.9 per cent and 1.75 per cent down, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.03 per cent and 0.22 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.66 per cent down. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Eternal Ltd. 66845146.00, Wipro Ltd. 34638511.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 26094378.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 21723944.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 20614036.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 556.17 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 119242.61 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 64419 with a total turnover of Rs. 10512.18 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1004869 with a total turnover of Rs. 67361.82 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 46526489 with a total turnover of Rs. 7318979.37 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5069169 with a total turnover of Rs. 350972.17 Crore.

The FIIs on 01/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 25303.56 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1755.45 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 27084.55 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 477.03 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1780.99 Crore and Rs. 1278.42
