Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open on a strong note on December 22, tracking overnight global cues. This comes despite GIFT Nifty trading slightly lower around the 26,171 mark in early trade.

In the previous session, domestic equities snapped a four-day losing streak, with the Nifty closing above the 25,900 level. Broad-based buying across sectors supported the rebound, aided by optimism over the possibility of further rate easing by the US Federal Reserve following softer-than-expected US inflation data.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 84929.36 up by 447.55 points or by 0.53 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25966.4 up by 150.85 points or by 0.58 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading higher after China’s central bank kept its loan prime rates steady on Monday. Last checked, Japan's Nikkei 225 index was up 1.86 per cent and South Korea's KOSPI index was up 1.9 per cent. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.83 per cent in early trade. Last Friday, US markets closed sharply higher for second consecutive session with AI-related stocks leading the rally as risk appetite returned to the market following sharp volatility. The S&P 500 index rose 0.88 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.31 per cent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average 0.38 per cent.

The FIIs on 19/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14175.72 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 556.02 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 11351.72 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 278.54 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2824.00 Crore and Rs. 277.48
