MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a positive note on July 9, supported by firm global cues. GIFT Nifty was trading higher near 23,990 in early trade, indicating a strong start for domestic equities.

In the previous session, benchmark indices extended their decline for a second consecutive day, pressured by weak global sentiment, a more than 6 percent surge in crude oil prices, and rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76503.6 down by -1677.12 points or by -2.15 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23882.05 down by -516.65 points or by -2.12 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading higher as chip stocks advanced while traders assessed the renewed tension between the US and Iran. South Korea’s Kospi was up 2.3 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.37 per cent.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 1.09 per cent and 0.28 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.2 per cent higher.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Eternal Ltd. 58555994.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 38754632.00, Jio Financial Services Ltd. 37304617.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 24753835.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 22517529.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 567.42 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 138389.65 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 185502 with a total turnover of Rs. 30079.69 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1504667 with a total turnover of Rs. 101634.38 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 70872496 with a total turnover of Rs. 11212744.59 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 7074845 with a total turnover of Rs. 491384.57 Crore

The FIIs on 08/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 20247.02 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 927.19 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 18676.31 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 360.82 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1570.71 Crore and Rs. 566.37.
