Indian equities are set for a subdued start on September 9, with GIFT Nifty signaling a weak opening near 23,664.

The domestic market remained under pressure in the previous session, with the Nifty slipping to a near three-month low as investors continued to sell across IT, banking and oil & gas stocks.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 75577.58 down by -555.23 points or by -0.73 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23635.1 down by -144.05 points or by -0.61 %.

On the global front, most Asia-Pacific markets advanced in early trade on Wednesday as investors remained bullish for artificial-intelligence (AI) shares. South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.36 per cent, tracking gains in SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.4 per cent. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 1.18 per cent and 0.58 per cent lower, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.32 per cent. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Steel Ltd. 24272812.00, Bharat Electronics Ltd. 23225496.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 19883515.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 12406799.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 12123411.00,

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 534.46 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 108364.68 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 60857 with a total turnover of Rs. 9716.62 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 649913 with a total turnover of Rs. 45477.95 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 283105483 with a total turnover of Rs. 43758515.42 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4957431 with a total turnover of Rs. 367820.00 Crore.

The FIIs on 08/09/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10678.41 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 653.64 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 9397.92 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 174.69 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1280.49 Crore and Rs. 478.95
