Indian benchmark indices are poised for a gap-down opening on July 8, tracking weak global cues. GIFT Nifty was trading around 24,251.50 in early trade, indicating a subdued start for the domestic equity market.

In the previous session, the benchmark indices failed to sustain their early gains and snapped a four-session winning streak, ending marginally lower amid a volatile trading session.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78180.72 down by -104.35 points or by -0.13 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24398.7 down by -31.65 points or by -0.13 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading lower on Wednesday morning as oil prices increased after the US launched a retaliatory strike against Iran and revoked its license to sell oil worldwide. The Nikkei 225 and the Kospi were trading 0.48 per cent and 0.76 per cent down, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.25 per cent and 0.45 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 1.16 per cent down. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – HDFC Bank Ltd. 57611729.00, Eternal Ltd. 45305615.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 23216875.00, Jio Financial Services Ltd. 23069644.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 22805982.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 470.77 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 127892.33 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 72867 with a total turnover of Rs. 11949.61 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1104972 with a total turnover of Rs. 73634.52 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 388697183 with a total turnover of Rs. 61785668.22 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5626382 with a total turnover of Rs. 385836.29 Crore.

The FIIs on 07/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 12826.17 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1402.69 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 11977.84 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1298.22 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 848.33 Crore and Rs. 104.47
