Indian benchmark indices are likely to witness a muted opening on September 29, tracking GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 22,834 in early trade.

The domestic market began the week on a weak note, with the Nifty slipping below the 22,800 mark intraday amid broad-based selling pressure. The weakness extended the indices’ seven-week losing streak, keeping investor sentiment cautious ahead of today’s session.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 72771.72 down by -1124.02 points or by -1.52 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22780.25 down by -360.25 points or by -1.56 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets declined as high oil prices weighed on global bond markets after bets about the US Federal Reserve staying ‘higher for longer’ increased. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.89 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.67 per cent and 0.77 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.92 per cent.
