Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note on September 23, tracking the GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher at around 23,344.50 in early trade.

The domestic equity market snapped its four-day winning streak on September 22, with the benchmark indices ending below the 23,350 mark amid a volatile trading session. Selling pressure in Information Technology, PSU Banks and Oil & Gas stocks weighed on the market.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74529.08 down by -329.91 points or by -0.44 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23329 down by -85.3 points or by -0.36 %.

On the global front, most Asia-Pacific markets advanced, tracking similar overnight moves of their Wall Street peers as technology shares re-asserted their leadership. South Korea’s Kospi was up 0.4 per cent, while Japan’s financial markets were closed for a holiday.

Overnight, the rally in shares related to artificial intelligence (AI) lifted the Nasdaq 100 to a new high since June. The index settled 0.82 per cent higher at 30,732.40. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.36 per cent while the S&P 500 ended flat on Tuesday.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 10965.41 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 943.77 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 11613.66 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1454.73 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -648.25 Crore and Rs. -510.96
