Indian equity benchmarks, BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note today, supported by firm global cues. GIFT Nifty is trading higher around 24,230, indicating a strong start for domestic markets.
In the previous session, markets extended their losing streak for a second consecutive day, as rising geopolitical tensions and stalled US–Iran negotiations pushed crude oil prices above $100 per barrel, weighing on overall investor sentiment.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77664 down by -852.49 points or by -1.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24173.05 down by -205.05 points or by -0.84 %.
On the result front, Adani Green Energy, Atul, Can Fin Homes, Chennai Petroleum Corporation, DCB Bank, Hindustan Zinc, IndusInd Bank, Lodha Developers, L&T Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Mangalore Refiner & Petrochemicals, Reliance Industries, Shriram Finance, Supreme Petrochem,Tanla Platforms, and Zensar Technologies will release their fourth-quarter results.
On the global front, most markets in the Asia-Pacific region declined as stalled US-Iran talks fueled concerns about prolonged disruptions to energy supplies from the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, traders cheered the ceasefire extension between Lebanon and Israel. Both countries agreed to extend the ceasefire by three weeks after a meeting with President Donald Trump and top officials at the White House. The Kospi and the Hang Seng declined 0.22 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.55 per cent as data showed that the core inflation in the country rose 1.8 per cent in March, marking the first acceleration in the last five months.
Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Jio Financial Services Ltd. 74432271.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 37677616.00, Eternal Ltd. 33833959.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 27628052.00, Wipro Ltd. 20307250.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 488.59 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 135481.36 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 181696 with a total turnover of Rs. 29236.10 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 4916597 with a total turnover of Rs. 315555.82 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 42709158 with a total turnover of Rs. 6822254.03 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 10476200 with a total turnover of Rs. 703310.42 Crore
The FIIs on 23/04/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14675.45 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 364.76 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15925.35 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 628.20 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1249.90 Crore and Rs. -263.44
