Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a negative note on September 8, tracking the muted trend in GIFT Nifty, which was trading marginally lower at around 23,796.5 in early trade.

The domestic market failed to sustain Friday’s rebound, with the Nifty slipping below the 23,800 mark on September 7 amid broad-based selling pressure. Most sectors ended in the red, while healthcare stocks bucked the trend and provided some support.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76132.81 down by -382.62 points or by -0.5 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23779.15 down by -118.55 points or by -0.5 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note as gains in technology shares supported, while ongoing US-Iran tension weighed on risk sentiment. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were up 0.35 per cent and 1.74 per cent, respectively.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 124828377 with a total turnover of Rs. 19458491.33 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4942391 with a total turnover of Rs. 361039.89 Crore.

The FIIs on 07/09/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 13067.24 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 261.10 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 19516.98 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 764.53 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -6449.74 Crore and Rs. -503.43
