Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a cautious note on August 4, with GIFT Nifty indicating a flat-to-negative start, trading around 24,629.50 in early trade.

In the previous session, domestic equity markets extended their winning streak for the fourth consecutive day. The Nifty ended above the 24,700 mark, supported by broad-based buying across most sectors, while media stocks remained the only major laggard. Market participants will now watch global cues, institutional flows, and sectoral trends for further direction in today's session.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78639.03 up by 544.39 points or by 0.7 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24774.3 up by 390.7 points or by 1.6 %.

On the global front, markets in the Asia-Pacific region were trading on a mixed note as traders assessed tensions between the US and Iran. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading 0.82 per cent and 0.15 per cent lower, respectively.

Meanwhile, Australia’s S&P ASX was up 1.14 per cent. Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rose 1.32 per cent and 1.48 per cent, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 2.13 per cent higher. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 118908660 with a total turnover of Rs. 18972543.45 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6692286 with a total turnover of Rs. 487358.72 Crore

The FIIs on 03/08/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 20641.04 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 902.93 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 19290.02 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1387.65 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1351.02 Crore and Rs. -484.72
