Indian benchmark indices are set for a cautious start on September 10, with GIFT Nifty pointing to a muted-to-negative opening. GIFT Nifty was trading around 23,462.50 in early trade.

The weak opening comes after a sharp sell-off in the previous session, with the Nifty falling 203.60 points, or 0.86%, to 23,431.50, while the Sensex declined over 813 points. IT and realty stocks were among the biggest drags, keeping investor sentiment subdued.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74764.23 down by -813.35 points or by -1.08 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23431.5 down by -203.6 points or by -0.86 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading sharply lower on Thursday morning as traders weighed the inflation outlook as oil prices continued to rise and as overnight losses on Wall Street weighed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were down 0.99 per cent and 1.7 per cent, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.77 per cent and 0.48 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 0.64 per cent lower. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 894737 with a total turnover of Rs. 61430.26 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 61654654 with a total turnover of Rs. 9555501.14 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6643376 with a total turnover of Rs. 477478.53 Crore.

The FIIs on 09/09/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 13303.56 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 496.65 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 12576.22 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1933.49 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 727.34 Crore and Rs. -1436.84
