Indian equities are set for a positive start on Wednesday, with the GIFT Nifty signaling a strong gap-up opening. The futures traded around 24,728, up 172 points, reflecting improved global risk sentiment after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that Washington and Tehran could reach a diplomatic agreement soon.
On the domestic front, market participants will closely monitor the outcome of the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. The central bank is widely expected to keep the benchmark policy rate unchanged, with investors focusing on the policy stance and commentary for cues on the future interest rate trajectory.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78428.95 down by -210.08 points or by -0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24614.9 down by -159.4 points or by -0.64 %.
On the global front, markets across the Asia-Pacific region advanced following Bessent's remarks. He said that the US and Iran could reach a deal as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday, which would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Japan's Nikkei 225 and South Korea's Kospi were up 3 per cent and 3.3 per cent, respectively.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite ended 1.71 per cent and 2.59 per cent higher, respectively. The rebound in artificial intelligence (AI)-themed stocks also lifted the S&P 500 to post its first record closing since June. The index ended 1.79 per cent higher at 7,736.49.
