Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected to open gap-up today, taking early cues from GIFT Nifty, which was hovering around 25,950.50.
Positive global sentiment after the Federal Reserve cut rates by 25 bps, bringing the policy rate down to 3.5% from 3.75% may help markets gain strength. However, the Fed also indicated that no additional rate cuts are expected in the near term, keeping investors watchful.
In the previous session (December 10), markets saw high volatility, and the benchmark indices closed lower, with the Nifty ending near 25,750, marking the third straight day of losses as investors stayed cautious ahead of the FOMC meeting outcome.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 84391.27 down by -275.01 points or by -0.32 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25758 down by -81.65 points or by -0.32 %. On the global front, Across Asia, markets were traded largely higher. Last seen, mainland China's CSI 300 was up 0.3 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.66 per cent, and South Korea's KOSPI climbed 0.67 per cent. However, Japan's Nikkei slipped 0.39 per cent. Overnight, US equities settled higher, with the Dow Jones up 1.05 per cent, the S&P 500 advancing 0.67 per cent, and the Nasdaq rising 0.3 per cent. On the commodity front, Silver prices hit a fresh record high of $62.6 per ounce, per LSEG data, following the Fed's rate cut. The US dollar index dropped to a low of 98.54 on Thursday morning. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 417.19 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 95826.74 Crore On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 105052 with a total turnover of Rs. 20484.22 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1032221 with a total turnover of Rs. 69799.63 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 68011219 with a total turnover of Rs. 13282894.32 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5849850 with a total turnover of Rs. 406669.72 Crore.
The FIIs on 10/12/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 17406.47 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 319.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 19534.14 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 648.27 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2127.67 Crore and Rs. -329.27
