MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian equity benchmarks, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note today, supported by firm global cues. GIFT Nifty, which is trading higher near 24,227.50, indicate a likely gap-up start for the domestic markets.

In the previous session, the market witnessed volatility and closed under pressure after a strong rebound, as sentiment turned cautious following the inconclusive outcome of the recent US–Iran talks.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76847.57 down by -702.68 points or by -0.91 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23842.65 down by -207.95 points or by -0.86 %.

On the global front, Most Asia-Pacific markets advanced as the US and Iran scheduled a second round of talks. South Korea’s Kospi rose the most, and was trading 2.73 per cent higher. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and China’s CSI 300 were trading 0.78 per cent and 0.48 per cent higher, respectively. Overnight, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average indices were trading 1.18 per cent and 0.66 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.96 per cent higher.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 540.77 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 129987.55 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 139682 with a total turnover of Rs. 22053.31 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1187281 with a total turnover of Rs. 77585.70 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 378179120 with a total turnover of Rs. 58522608.04 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5327023 with a total turnover of Rs. 364104.35 Crore.

The FIIs on 13/04/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 18909.18 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 81.94 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17399.81 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 945.36 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1509.37 Crore and Rs. -863.42
