Indian benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on June 18, taking cues from firm trends in GIFT Nifty, which was trading near 24,092 in early trade.
The domestic market ended higher for the fourth straight session on June 17, with the Nifty 50 closing above the 24,050 level. Sustained buying interest across sectors, coupled with continued strength in broader markets, helped equities maintain their upward momentum and set a constructive tone for today's session.
On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77155.62 up by 347.14 points or by 0.45 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24085.7 up by 96.55 points or by 0.4 %.
On the global front, The US Fed held the federal funds target range steady at 3.5 per cent and 3.7 per cent. While Chairman Kevin Warsh avoided giving a rate forecast, the dot plot showed the central bank officials expect a chance of a rate hike in 2026.
Most Asia-Pacific markets were trading lower in the early trade on Thursday. The Hang Seng and the S&P ASX 200 were down 1.06 per cent and 0.35 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Japan’s benchmark index scaled a fresh high, rising beyond the 71,000 mark. The index was up 1.94 per cent.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a fresh high intraday, but erased gains. The index settled 0.98 per cent down. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 1.21 per cent and 1.34 per cent down, respectively. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. 51987488.00, Eternal Ltd. 33196297.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 32405604.00, Bharat Electronics Ltd. 24506595.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 22491220.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 611.74 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 133368.61 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 72139 with a total turnover of Rs. 11726.89 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1169468 with a total turnover of Rs. 73756.50 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 40373338 with a total turnover of Rs. 6368471.30 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 7919283 with a total turnover of Rs. 516606.51 Crore.
The FIIs on 17/06/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16020.74 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2936.31 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 13135.60 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 661.84 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2885.14 Crore and Rs. 2274.47
