MARKET COMMENTARY

Domestic equity markets are likely to begin Wednesday's session on a positive note, tracking upbeat global market sentiment and strength in GIFT Nifty. In early trade, GIFT Nifty hovered around the 24,070 mark, indicating a firm opening for benchmark indices.

In the previous session, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 extended their winning streak for a third straight day, driven by improved investor sentiment amid easing geopolitical concerns after the US-Iran agreement. Gains were led by buying in IT, FMCG, realty and other heavyweight stocks, helping the benchmarks close higher.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76808.48 up by 544.15 points or by 0.71 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23989.15 up by 135.25 points or by 0.57 %.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading on a mixed note. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.69 per cent, and South Korea’s Kospi was down 0.29 per cent.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a fresh high and settled at a new closing high. The index finished Tuesday’s session 0.64 per cent or 328.64 points higher at 51,999.67.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.57 per cent and 1.15 per cent lower, respectively. Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Tata Steel Ltd. 29255187.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 27820970.00, Eternal Ltd. 19483651.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 18513223.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 17468010.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 589.61 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 119619.41 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 75789 with a total turnover of Rs. 12142.67 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 944344 with a total turnover of Rs. 61372.23 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 351391491 with a total turnover of Rs. 54755896.06 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 6551799 with a total turnover of Rs. 428135.37 Crore.

The FIIs on 16/06/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16452.29 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1292.50 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15438.17 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 538.92 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1014.12 Crore and Rs. 753.58
