Indian equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 are expected to open on a weak note today, tracking subdued cues from GIFT Nifty, which is hovering around the 22,672 level.

In the previous session (April 2), markets witnessed high volatility but managed to close in the green, with the Nifty ending above the 22,700 mark. The upside was largely supported by gains in IT stocks, aided by the Indian rupee recording its strongest rally in over 12 years.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73319.55 up by 185.23 points or by 0.25 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22713.1 up by 33.7 points or by 0.15 %.

On the global front, markets in Japan and South Korea advanced in early trade on Monday. The Nikkei 225 and the Kospi were trading 1.19 per cent and 1.36 per cent higher, respectively.

Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.13 per cent down. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.11 per cent and 0.18 per cent higher, respectively.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 549.20 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 117090.06 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 223113 with a total turnover of Rs. 33095.14 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1284466 with a total turnover of Rs. 77176.26 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 48467379 with a total turnover of Rs. 7188686.83 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4247240 with a total turnover of Rs. 268643.84 Crore.

The FIIs on 02/04/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 41116.50 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1098.26 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 60953.73 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 611.66 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -19837.23 Crore and Rs. 486.60
