MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on June 12, supported by firm global cues and strength in GIFT Nifty. The GIFT Nifty was trading around 23,512.5 in early trade, indicating a strong start for domestic equities.

In the previous session, Indian markets witnessed heightened volatility and ended lower, with the Nifty 50 slipping below the 23,200 mark amid broad-based selling pressure across sectors. Despite the weak market sentiment, select pockets showed resilience, as pharma, private banking, and media stocks outperformed and closed in positive territory.

Investors will closely monitor global market trends, institutional flows, and sector-specific developments for further direction during today's trading session.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73832.55 down by -150.63 points or by -0.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23161.6 down by -53.35 points or by -0.23 %.

On the global front, in the Asia-Pacific region, stock markets advanced as traders hoped for an end to hostilities in West Asia. South Korea’s Kospi jumped 8.5 per cent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading 2.8 per cent and 1.16 per cent higher, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 1.86 per cent and 1.75 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 2.54 per cent higher.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 522.90 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 112502.22 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 102815 with a total turnover of Rs. 16033.93 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 870092 with a total turnover of Rs. 56132.61 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 52604674 with a total turnover of Rs. 8021640.12 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5141061 with a total turnover of Rs. 344008.54 Crore.

The FIIs on 11/06/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14528.80 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 581.31 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15966.32 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 134.16 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1437.52 Crore and Rs. 447.15
