MARKET COMMENTARY

Sep-02-2026 08:28

Indian equity benchmarks are expected to open on a subdued note on September 2, with GIFT Nifty indicating a flat start near 24,042.50 in early trade.

The market remained under pressure in the previous session, with the Sensex and Nifty closing marginally lower for the second straight day on September 1. The session remained volatile as buying interest in FMCG, IT, media and metal stocks was outweighed by selling in auto, banking, pharma and realty shares.

Overall, investors are likely to remain cautious at the start of today's session, tracking sector-specific movements and broader global cues.

On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76944.28 down by -12.99 points or by -0.02 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24055.8 down by -24.6 points or by -0.1 %.

On the global front, in the Asia-Pacific markets, markets were trading lower as renewed West Asia tension sparked up inflation worries while traders anticipate a rate hike in the US. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were trading 2.9 per cent and 3.08 per cent down, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.79 per cent and 0.71 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.03 per cent down.
