Indian benchmark indices are likely to open flat to lower on September 21, tracking weak cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 23,341 in early trade.

The domestic equity market ended mixed in the previous session, with the Sensex and Nifty witnessing divergent trends. While easing crude oil prices provided some support, weakness in IT stocks and Tata Group counters weighed on the benchmarks.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index 74294.96 down by -19.63 points or by -0.03 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23346.4 up by 75.8 points or by 0.33 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets advanced on Monday morning on reports of a positive discussion between the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Vice Premier He Lifeng. They agreed to set up a discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at reaching a common understanding of goals and threats, according to Bessent.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi rose 1.38 per cent and 1.32 per cent, respectively.

Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.18 per cent, and the S&P 500 rose 0.17 per cent. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.39 per cent higher.

The FIIs on 18/09/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 9215.71 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2206.35 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 12379.75 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1055.99 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3164.04 Crore and Rs. 1150.36
