Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a firm note on September 4, tracking GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher at around 24,023 in early trade.

Indian equity indices ended lower for the fourth consecutive session on September 3, surrendering their early gains, as buying interest in media, realty and banking stocks was outweighed by selling in auto, IT and pharma counters.

On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76152.86 down by -417.49 points or by -0.55 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23873.45 down by -41 points or by -0.17 %.

On the global front, in the Asia-Pacific region, markets advanced as fears about monetary tightening in the US settled after Fed Governor Christopher Waller said that he would be comfortable holding rates at the current level in case the price pressure doesn’t surprise on the upside. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s Kospi were up 0.68 per cent and 1.01 per cent, respectively.

Traders now await the release of August payroll data, scheduled for later today.
