Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a negative note on August 17, tracking weakness in GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,401 in early trade.

The domestic market remained under pressure in the previous session, with the Nifty extending its losing streak to four consecutive sessions as selling in metal, auto and IT stocks weighed on the benchmarks. Elevated crude oil prices and persistent geopolitical concerns are likely to keep investor sentiment cautious.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 78009.25 down by -70.71 points or by -0.09 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24366 down by -29.85 points or by -0.12 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets rose on Monday morning as traders unwound their bets on US rate hikes following softer economic data. South Korea’s Kospi and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng were trading 2.42 per cent and 1.4 per cent higher.

Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.2 per cent and 0.17 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.28 per cent. Back home, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 456.67 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 105584.66 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 46932 with a total turnover of Rs. 7683.41 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 824114 with a total turnover of Rs. 58546.02 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 76577075 with a total turnover of Rs. 12208167.47 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 8091370 with a total turnover of Rs. 613762.23 Crore.

The FIIs on 14/08/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16142.55 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 509.60 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15791.28 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2032.73 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 351.27 Crore and Rs. -1523.13
