Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a weak note on August 18, tracking the negative cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,325.50 in early trade.

The domestic markets extended their losing streak for the fifth consecutive session on August 17, weighed down by selling pressure across PSU banks, IT, pharma and FMCG stocks.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 77728.16 down by -281.09 points or by -0.36 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24287.65 down by -78.35 points or by -0.32 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets were trading mixed on Tuesday morning as investors assessed the ongoing dynamics between the US and Iran. Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 1.05 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi gained 1.12 per cent.

Overnight, US stock futures slipped as traders assessed the inflation outlook after a surge in oil prices amid continued geopolitical tensions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.51 per cent and 0.52 per cent lower, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite closed down 0.32 per cent
