MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on June 22, supported by firm cues from the GIFT Nifty, which was trading near 24,124.50 during early hours.

In the previous session, domestic equities ended their five-day winning streak, with the Nifty closing around the 24,000 mark. The decline was primarily driven by weakness in IT, oil & gas, and realty stocks, leading to profit booking across the broader market. Investors will closely monitor global market trends, institutional flows, and sector-specific developments for further direction.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76802.9 down by -607.08 points or by -0.78 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24013.1 down by -154.9 points or by -0.64 %.

On the global front, most Asian markets advanced in early trade, ignoring US President Donald Trump’s latest threats of striking Iran despite the interim peace agreement. The Nikkei 225 and the Kospi were trading 2.05 per cent and 1.07 per cent higher, respectively.

Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.48 per cent and 1.08 per cent higher, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 1.91 per cent higher.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 627.87 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 159981.95 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 106668 with a total turnover of Rs. 17196.86 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1520500 with a total turnover of Rs. 95943.19 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 93854615 with a total turnover of Rs. 14747979.40 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 9115504 with a total turnover of Rs. 590170.82 Crore.

The FIIs on 19/06/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 13328.70 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 968.52 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15135.29 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 705.14 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1806.59 Crore and Rs. 263.38
